Farmhouse Living Near Noida

Kitchen gardens, orchards, long lunches and quiet evenings. What weekend life on a farm plot really involves, season by season, and what to check on the land before you buy for it.

The Farm Year

Winter, Summer and Monsoon on a Farm Plot

The NCR year has three seasons that matter on the land. Each changes what you grow, how you spend the day and what needs doing.

WinterOct - Feb SummerMar - Jun MonsoonJul - Sep
Meals Outdoors The best season: sarson ka saag, makki ki roti and long afternoons in the sun. Cook early, eat in deep shade or move indoors after noon. A covered kitchen is essential; keep fuel dry and drains clear.
A Kitchen Garden The main season. Sow Sep - Nov: leafy greens, roots, peas, cauliflower, cabbage, mustard. Sow Feb - Mar: okra, gourds, cucumber, brinjal. Water daily and mulch. Sow with the first rains; watch drainage, weeds and pests.
Lawns & Verandas Lawn at its best; mornings on the veranda in the sun. Water daily, mow high, and expect some browning. Fast growth: mow often, clear drains, manage mosquitoes.
Evenings Fire season, within air-quality rules. Foggy nights are common in Dec - Jan. Late, warm evenings outdoors; the clearest skies come in spring. Dramatic skies between showers; insects come out in force.
Orchards & Trees Guava and citrus season; prune and feed fruit trees. Mango season in June; young trees need regular water. Planting season; watch for waterlogging around roots.
Pools & Water Pool rarely used; a good time for repairs and re-tiling. Peak use and peak water demand; check the borewell copes. Recharge pits fill; keep pool water treated against algae.
